Urbanization was one of the reasons why the living conditions of the people in the industrial revolution were so bad. Many people we 're looking for jobs and found opportunities of employment in industrial cities. This led to overpopulated cities and poor living spaces. Stated in Life In Industrial Towns, its says, "Waste of all sorts from the homes was thrown into the courtyard and so-called night-men would collect this at night and dispose of it. Sanitation and hygiene barely existed and throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries the great fear was a cholera, typhus or typhoid epidemic." (C N Trueman). In other words streets of industrial cities were filled with disease and unsanitary conditions. Diseases like cholera typhus or typhoid was spreading throughout the streets because of the way people had lived. There was no sewage system and many people did not shower due to the fact that there was no space or the source of clean water was very distant. People believed that it was easier not to care about their hygiene. As stated in Industrial Revolution Era, it says “During the half-century around 1900, these public health interventions succeeded in drastically reducing the incidence of water-borne diseases among the urban population, and were an important cause in the increases of life expectancy experienced at the time.” (Wikipedia). In other words, these sewage systems were very important to the people of the Industrial Revolution because it minimized the probability of the people receiving water-borne diseases. This is very important because it shows an effective solution to the problem of living conditions that people had. Without the installment of sewage systems in industrial cities, the problem would continue to grow until it’d affect businesses and the state of the nation, as well as it’s economy. If the workers die from disease, the businesses that are being built on labour would be destroyed and the economy of the country would stay at the level of poverty.
