Responsiblity: An Experience That Changed My Life

Much of my younger life was formed by having fun and doing child-like things, but when these activities weren 't occuring my parents were secretly teaching me how to be an independent person. They started with small things, like giving me chores and responsibilities, and slowly graduated to larger things such as expecting me to get to school on time. A lack of rules granted me much freedom, but also heightened moral standards imposed on me by my parents. Overall, however, the independence granted to me by my parents while I was still a youth was a positive experience, as it taught me responsibility, fostering motivation, and management skills. However, burnout can be reversed by finding the motivation to complete the task like you did before. Also, you can reduce burnout by lessening the burden you have, which I found to be effective coupled with increasing my motivation. My parents always stressed both in the past and the future that I not compare myself to classmates, and simply let my responsibilities and motivation take me far in life. Motivation is closely correspondent with passion, and there is a thin line between passion and obsession. However, the best way to contain motivation and not allow it to adversly effect parts of your life is to maintain the small, menial parts of your life as well. Management skills are typically the ability to influence other people, and the ability to influence my own actions. Management in some ways is a combination of both responsibility and motivation, as it is showing commitment to your growth and development as a person. One subdivision of management is time management, which is basically scheduling your life and not arriving late to events. I was always given the liberty of scheduling my own tasks, such as time to complete assignments, and time to practice music or sports. This may have initially been difficult to adhere to, but has eventually become pivotal to enjoying my life, as I have more time to enjoy life outside of responsibilities. Another subdivision of managements is money management, which has becoming glaringly important in the last few months of living on my own. When given money by relatives as a child, I was never told how to use it. Initially, I was a bit irresponsible with it, however as years progressed I began to see the value of having some emergency money. This trait has carried over to college life, and has proven to be the most important management skill of all. Having money on hand allows me some flexibility with spending, so long as I adhere to a relatively inexpensive meal plan of mostly cooking at home. Sometimes, trying to teach management skills to a child can overwhelm
