The information isn’t always reliable, so innocent animals suffer without a cause. Due to the change in DNA and bio structure, “some scientists doubt that vivisection can provide accurate models of human diseases and treatments at all” (Stachell). For example, scientists discovered that while 700 medicines claim to benefit a stroke in animals, over 150 failed to have any positive effect on humans (Anderreg, Bailey, et. al). In relation to the Draize eye test, the results are often untransferable to humans. A rabbit’s cornea is significantly different than a human’s in anatomical structure, and rabbits only have one tear duct, making their tear production much lower than a humans (Katrinak). So, testing a product on a rabbit’s eye will give a substantially different outcome than that of a human. A certain product can turn a rabbit blind after three days, and a human might be able to simply blink away the same product within a matter of …show more content…
Such anger towards the scientific field can lead to extreme and sometimes violent opposition. One of the most targeted animal testing centers is Huntingdon, the second largest animal testing laboratory in the world (Satchell). Their procedures are extensively radical, and the SHAC (Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty) plans to stop them through any means. Since 1999, the protesters have fire bombed employee’s cars, have mailed boxes with razor blades in them, and have even beat a man outside his own home with a baseball bat (Satchel). However, SHAC is not the only group that is determined to stop animal testing. One of the most distinguished animal activists groups is PETA. PETA has bought stock in some of the most well known industries, such as Marblo, Virginia Slims, and Revlon in order to unveil what really occurs behind closed laboratory doors (PETA buys Stock). The uproar that animal testing causes amongst the human population is tearing apart human morale and
