This is a critical Analysis on an article called “Social media and Society”, this article states the good and the bad effects of social media on society and individuals. The author starts his article with an opening statement about how social media dominated our lives and how many years ago there were no Facebook, twitter or even e-mail which was hard for people because they couldn’t reach eachother instantly. He starts by stating the positive effects of social media like how it made everybody closer to people living in far, different countries. The article also mentions how it could be dangerous on youngsters because sometimes people post photos that contain violence or sex on social media which could lead into reckoning their attitudes and behaviors. The author also explains how accounts could be hacked and personal or private photos could be posted or leaked. The article also mentions that social media creates a gap between family members; instead of a family watching a movie together everyone sits with their phones tracking twitter, facebook and other social networks. It also mentions that social media has a great influence on people’s opinion which is considered a double edged weapon because it influences people in a negative way sometimes and influences their behavior towards social or political matters. Some people use it spread it negative thoughts and ideas to people all around the world. Social media also drives people into comparing their lives standards with other people causing some people to think of their lives as less than other people’s lives. The article also mentions that some people idealize drugs and makes drugs appear as something that is safe which influences others to use it and become open to the idea. The over using of social media also could cause depression because building your life on social media causes you to become isolated in real world and this isolation causes depression; which causes some teenagers to look for solution online which could be harmful or talk to strangers out of loneliness. He also mentions that studies show that social media is a waste of time because when the person is notified of a post it takes 20 to 25 minutes for the person to get back to whatever he was
