Training and development events within the processes of an organization attempt to create a learning program that prepares its employees for required tasks and growth in their abilities needed for future demands (Noe, 2013). Within their preparation programs the key components that must be addressed to have a successful learning experience include knowledge management and instructional design (Noe, 2013). In the school organization, in which I currently teach mathematics, the component that most interests me in analyzing is the rationale behind the instructional design that is chosen to prepare our teachers for the innovative and diverse demands of preparing our 21st century learners. S. Tudon (personal communication, September 16, 2015) stated that the primary purpose of training and development was, "To accommodate teachers as learners and provide opportunities to improve in their classroom practice, curriculum understanding, delivery of instruction and data interpretation." Sarah 's perspectives align appropriately with Noe 's (2013) description of human resource which, "...refers to the policies, practices, and systems that influence employee 's behavior, attitudes, and performance" (p. 6). In my experience working with Sarah I have noticed that most of the training and development initiatives she has directed data-driven and have isolated instructional areas in need of improvement. Veronica 's response was similar to Sarah 's views but placed more emphasis on centering trainings on instructional strategy development saying, "Professional development must help teachers develop skills that will support the implementation of new instructional strategies adopted by the district" (V. Macias, personal communication, September 18, 2015). On the issue of key elements needed for formal training to be successful, both Sarah and Veronica mentioned planning, knowing the composition of the participants, the duration of the presentation, technology implementation and …show more content…
Both agreed that effective trainers must be knowledgeable in the content or topic presented, have effective delivery skills, be flexible and adaptable to the presentation setting, having the ability to improvise as needed to make the training relevant and successful (S. Tudon & V. Macias, personal communication, September, 2015). Noe (2013) stated, "In most companies, training and development activities are provided by trainers, managers, in-house consultants, and employee experts" (p. 45). Both Sara and Veronica also agreed that the increase of technology use has triggered changes in what topics are presented in training and development, and also in the implementation of collaborative trainings. V. Macias (personal communication, September 18, 2015) stated, "Technology has provided us with web 2.0 tools that allow us to provide sharing networks for teachers in which webinars and flipped trainings are implemented in a more accessible manner." I believe that innovation in training and development is vital to prepare teachers in developing a mindset of new learning techniques that is relevant to how the 21st learners create and apply knowledge. Noe (2013) stated, "Technology has reshaped the way we play, communicate, plan our lives, and work" (p.
