There are many themes to “Rikki-Tikki-Tavi”. One theme of the story “Rikki-Tikki-Tavi” is that you should be grateful when someone helps you. This is portrayed in the story with many of the characters. These characters are Rikki-Tikki, the mother and father, and the animals in the garden. At the beginning of the story, Rikki-Tikki washed up on the shore after a flood carried him away from his family. The family rescued him and dried him off. He was very energetic when he came back to consciousness. He protects the family from the cobras and other snakes in the garden because he is grateful that they rescued him. When Karat threatened Teddy he protected him. He fought Karat and bit him which caused him to become paralyzed. He also killed Nag, killed …show more content…
At first the mother was a little nervous about having Rikki-Tikki around. She soon grew to love him along with the rest of the family. When Rikki-Tikki saved Teddy from Karat, they thanked him. They even opened up their home to Rikki-Tikki. They let Rikki-Tikki run around their house. They let him sleep beside Teddy’s head. They also gave him food to eat. They also trusted Rikki-Tikki throughout the story. They trusted him because he was always there when they needed him or when they were in danger. They loved Rikki-Tikki for these reasons. The animals in the garden are very grateful for Rikki-Tikki. They show their gratitude towards Rikki-Tikki in so many ways. Darzee’s way of showing his gratitude was by creating a song for him. He sang this song for hours to show that he was grateful for Rikki-Tikki protecting him. Darzee’s wife showed her gratitude by helping Rikki-Tikki. When Rikki-Tikki was going to kill the baby cobras, Darzee’s wife distracted Nagiana. She yelled “The boy threw a rock across the room and broke my wing!” She jumped around to make this more believe able. The birds also informed him when something bad was about to happen to
