Depression is officially defined as “a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest”, according to the Mayo Clinic. The definition is a general statement that most people interpret in very different ways. You could ask one person what they think the definition is and they would say someone who is simply perpetually upset about something or another, and another more aware person may describe it as an illness of the mind. In the media the portrayal of depression can be somewhat relatable, but the definition is so broad that people can get the completely wrong meaning. While some aspects of media regarding depression are truly helpful, there is also a side that is very misinterpreted or misunderstood. People
