Vulnerability is best defined as the people who are easily to be harmed and it results from an interaction between what resources available to people and their communities and the life challenges they face. “Vulnerability is a result that derives from developmental problems, personal incapacities, disadvantaged social status, inadequacy of interpersonal networks and supports, neighborhoods and environments that are degraded, and the complex interactions of these factors over the life course” (Mechanic & Tanner, 2007).

People who fit into this population group are mothers, children, elderly and people who are ill and unable to snap back from the issues of their surroundings. The vulnerable populations need the community for emotional support and also social support during their time of need. Out of the many different populations teen mothers in my opinion are more at risk of being vulnerable than any other population. The need for communities to support young parents and their children has been recognized through the development of different policies and programs which are aimed at supporting teenagers through pregnancy and while going through parenthood, while reducing the chances of increasing teenage pregnancy (Taylor, Mills, Schmied, Dahlen, Shuiringa, & Hudson, 2012, pg.258). “Early intervention and support has been found to improve outcomes for young parents and their children such as improved parent– child interaction, parenting-confidence, and infant motor development” (Taylor, Mills, Schmied, Dahlen, Shuiringa, & Hudson, 2012, pg.258). Social norms are defined as different behaviors in which people in society expect a person to have. Examples of social behavior could include: things your mother told you not to say while in the presence of an adult, always be polite and respectful to your elders or, never chew food and talk at the same time. In a vulnerable population social norms such as poverty, lack of information and low income can keep a person for progressing. Cultural norms could include language barriers, religion, family values and beliefs. These can affect a vulnerable community because they may not understand what is being said to them and could be wrongly diagnosed. Another barrier could cause issues is that a family could believe in a certain type of way to provide treatment and may not agree with what the doctor may be treating them with and it could cause them to lose their
