"National values," "societal values," and perhaps most commonly "family values" inevitably breach the lips of any given political candidate at some point throughout their campaign. Despite how much the idea of values is tailored to a pragmatic end, they are no less important to the voter and especially to the Christian. Our values define who we are as individuals, and they guide us in making important decisions as well as in conducting our day to day lives. They shape our ethics, how we should conduct our lives, and therefore it behooves voters to understand exactly what theirs are. For Christians, the groundwork is already laid. The Bible, as God 's word to us, reveals to us what we should value. Each and every one of these factors influence a person 's values, shaping their decisions independently or in conjunction with their religious or anti-religious convictions. A single, middle-aged mother living in the suburbs, for example, might very likely have very different values than a elderly, married war veteran living in a rural area. Every single one of our lives is different from everyone else 's in one way or another, and while we should not abandon our personal values without reason, we must always be willing to work with others and compromise if necessary.
