The Politics Of Jesus : Rediscovering The True Revolutionary Nature
The book brings information about the political views of Jesus, if these political views shaped the revolutionary teaching of Jesus, and how so. Hendricks determines whether or not the teachings of Jesus were conservative and liberal in nature, and he puts them up against the political values of American society. He also attempts to show how this political, revolutionary view of Jesus was turned into a mild and meek one.
By researching the oppressive rule of the Romans, Hendricks believes that the message of Jesus was to bring empowerment to the oppressed, instead of a message of only spirituality. A crucial part of Jesus’ revolutionary stance was his political views. In order to understand these views, one must know the political issues and environment of his day. It appears that Hendricks uses this book as a platform for talking about his beliefs in American politics. However, Hendricks does give the reader insight to the political environment and aspects of the revolutionary Jesus.
