America has commonly been known as the "melting pot", welcoming people from many different countries, races, and religions, all hoping to find freedom, new opportunities, and a better way of life. Today, the United States is experiencing another great wave ripple of immigration, a movement of people that has profound implications of a society that by tradition gives respect to its immigrant roots at the same time it confronts complicated and deeply embedded ethnic and racial division. This great surge of immigration leads to the division of the majority and the minority group. Majority Group is the group that has the largest population in society and holds significant power and privilege, and the Minority Group is the group that has a smaller population and less power than the majority group. They are socially separated or segregated from the dominant forces of a society, members of a minority group usually are cut off from a full involvement in the workings of the society and from an equal share in the society’s rewards. Therefore, the role of minority groups varies from society to society depending on the structure of the social system and the relative power of the minority group.
