This presidential election has surprised millions of people. Despite the constant criticism of Trump, specifically his beliefs and his actions, he was able to win the presidential election in a landslide. For months we have heard that there is no way he will win, that his campaign is just a joke and that Hillary will sweep him in the final election. We, however, underestimated the power of his marketing strategy. It has even been stated by John Barker, the president and chief idea officer at independent advertising shop Barker, that “whether by instinct or design, Donald Trump is without a doubt the most modern and sophisticated marketer of the Republican candidates” (Stein 2016). Despite having no political background and no practical policies for the problems that trouble America today, Trump has managed to gain support of a large portion of the American population due to his use of media techniques.
Trumps policies before he won the election included building a wall along the Mexican border, banning Muslims from entering the United States, and lowering taxes (Speeches 2016). These plans, depending on your views, could be what you believe the

The editorial “Pimping Teenage Girls” by The Washington Times is an editorial used to show the audience that females are often hypersexualized in the media. The author used lots of connotation and bias to prove their point and show others that sexual exploitation of females on TV needs to stop. Rhetoric was used lightly in this editorial, the author not overly using it. A common form of rhetoric that was found was pathos, and this was one form that the author used a lot. For example in paragraph 9 the sentence states that “viewers themselves must let the networks know that the exploitation of children is unacceptable by turning off the trash, dialing a decent channel when they can find one, and reading a newspaper, magazine or book during prime time when ratings are made” (The Washington Times 9).…

Donald Trump’s slogan may be “Make America Great Again” but that will never be reality with him as president. According to polls from Huffington Post on Apr. 3, 45 percent of Republicans favor Trump. With blatant statements for everything ranging from women to war, the real estate tycoon dominates over the presidential election despite being the most unqualified candidate due to his political career, or lack thereof. However, the overwhelming preference for him is distressing because he built his rhetoric on bigotry and a shaky involvement with politics.…

Alluding religion, God, in his speech would often be acknowledged as him being a man of God, that might lead people to presume that Trump is not only a strong, respectable, unselfish man, but also an ethical man, which is one of the strongest ascription that anyone can hold. Ultimately, Trumps last appeal was his usage of logos, including some numbers in order to ensure his audience that he knew what he was talking about. His first, and strongest appeal to logos came up fairly quickly when he references the constitution of the united states when mentioning giving the power back to the people in regards to controlling the government (9). Though it may be debatable, Trump mentions America’s predicaments of lives lost, flushed education system, and more, which could be seen as a logo primarily because these statements are very much true (14). After all, Trump goes on to acknowledge the ten’s and millions of people that have come together, as a historical movement to America (12).…

Campaigning against Clinton and a staunch opponent of Obama’s administration, Trump believes “the rise of ISIS is the direct result of policy decisions made by President Obama and Secretary Clinton” (politico). Ideally, he would have liked to control the oil to prevent the rise of ISIS, through seizing their funding and keeping U.S. forces on ground to protect the oil (politico). President Donald Trump’s inaugural address perfectly echoed the tone and tenor of the campaign that swept him into office — blunt, populist, and relentlessly inward-looking for a nation that’s long defined itself as a global power. It was a speech that couldn’t have broken more sharply with the past administration both in style and substance. Trump didn’t mention Hillary Clinton, a woman who earned nearly 3 million more votes in the presidential election. And he did make a point of saying “radical Islamic terrorism,” a phrase conservatives have long chided the Obama administration for eschewing.…

Lisa McGirr’s book Suburban Warriors: The origins of the New American Right, published in 2001, examines the history of the conservative grassroots movement in Orange County, California during the 1960s and 1970s. With a “bottom up” lens, McGirr focused on ordinary people behind the grass-roots conservatism rather than the intellectual and political leaders. Historian Richard Hofstadter believed right-wing activists acted purely on their “psychological distress” rather than being motivated by a set of beliefs or “rational politics” (7). In response, McGirr argues that the ordinary people who created conservative grassroots were usually already involved with modernity. Many of them were mobile migrants who welcomed entrepreneurialism and already…

The slogan that propelled Donald Trump into his influence across the nation, “make America great again,” shows that Trump sees America has fallen downhill and has hopes to improve it. Trump wants to see this country go back to the prosperous country it once was, but he does not know how to filter his words according to most, which makes him seem frightening. Despite Clinton’s accusation about the risk of Donald Trump, his clever use of scare tactics gives voters a sense of security because of his ideas concerning immigration and terrorism. According to Molly Ball, author of “Donald Trump and the Politics of Fear,” Donald Trump uses fear to his advantage in hopes of winning the presidential election.…
