Historically, the police force of this city has not at all been reflective of the community in which it operates, particularly with regard to racial and ethnic characteristics. To that end, this document outlines a recruitment and hiring campaign for the police force that will endeavor to create a police force that is more inclusive, increasingly diverse, and can hopefully then begin to bridge the many gaps and heal wounds that currently exist between the community and the police force that currently exists.
Essential Elements of the Job Police and community relations have been typically problematic in our city. With nearly 1 million residents, of which 40% are African American, 15% are Hispanic, 5% are other ethnic minorities,

• Wear body cameras, without any complaint or resistance, in an effort to demonstrate to residents that there is no police officer has a need to fear transparency in our city.
Recruitment Campaign
In order to recruit the right candidates for the new police force constituency, the recruitment campaign will feature outreach via a five-pronged approach. The primary channels and vehicles by which the campaign will be disseminated are as follows:
• Website – The website will feature a direct link to the police department’s page that will direct interested applicants to an area where they can find clear and explicit instructions regarding requirements and the application process to become a police officer.
• Social Media – The police department will feature the recruitment campaign on its Facebook page and on LinkedIn and will have a dedicated human resource to interacting with prospective candidates.
• Radio – Radio stations that are proven to have a diverse listening audience will be selected to run PSAs and advertisements about the recruitment
