Reflection Paper On Ride Along

Ride Along During and after my experience, I realized how similar and accurate the material learned in class was to what police officer experience in a typical day. I was able to participate in the Fullerton police ride along program, on April 8th from 10am-6pm, under Officer Lopez’s shift. Before arriving for the scheduled ride along, one needs to submit a waiver form. The form was not available online or the community service bureau not opened 24 hours, this created a delay in setting up the ride along. I realized that just like any other public institution, paperwork takes time. The day started arriving at the station and confirming my appointment. As I was waiting for Officer Lopez, I was able to witness everyday citizens and the interaction with the police department. Throughout the morning, the majority of the citizens were inquiring about towed cars. The bureaucratic aspect of the station was very evident. There were cleared defines lines and windows for the general public. A separate window was also allocated for citizens for those who were being fingerprinted. Both officers were called for backup and were only involved if needed. The juvenile who also had a child was emotionally unstable and had a tendency to become violent. Because the center is very strict to visitors, when the officers were called in I could only observe from the sidelines. As we have learned over the course of the semester most citizens don 't really know what police officers experience. At this center both officers who were witnessing a troubled juvenile pour her heart out helped give encouraging words and let the juvenile cry on their shoulders. The simple gesture that the officers expressed might become the biggest impact the juvenile will
