The Pole that Split a Friendship Jacob might have been a very superstitious person who had weird habits, but it didn’t change the fact that he was my best friend. We did everything together from the minute we met, most people found his superstitious ways weird, but I had grown to like them. As the ambulance carried him away I was in tears knowing that our friendship was over, and the only thing I could blame was that pole. May came in full heat with soaking temperatures, and the only thing on my mind was summer. It was coming up on the end of my 8th grade year, I had good grades with a good attitude, but no friends. Achieving good grades and success was easily achievable for me, the whole social thing, however, threw me for a whirl. Fumbling of words, and the sweating of hands every time someone came to carry on a conversation, began to annoy me. At that moment I noticed a kid who kept looking down at the sidewalk as he stepped. As I got closer I noticed he was only beginning to reach 5 foot, very clumsy, and had hair that looked like bed springs. He seemed to be startled by my presence, he opened his mouth and said “What do you want leave me alone.” Obviously he hasn’t had to many friends either, so I politely responded “I didn’t mean to bother you, my name is Mark and I was just interested to know why you always stare at the ground when you walk.” His response was a little un-timed, with him saying “My name is Jacob, and its a pleasure to meet you, but unfortunately I am…
