The Poem That Ruined My Life
It was a dreary Saturday morning in England for all but me. Today my friend Marie de France was asked to be a court writer for the court of Henry II and his wife Eleanor of Aquitaine, and she chose me as her lady in waiting. We were walking in the marketplace when we got this news, and Marie was ecstatic. No one knew why they chose Marie, some say that Eleanor wanted to have someone in the court who had a french background besides herself. Others say that Henry and Marie were having an affair, but who would believe that. Sunday was our first official day as members of the court ,and we did not want to be late.
“ Bailey. We overslept. We are going to be late on our first day,” Marie said.
“ It is alright, I have everything under control just get dressed quickly,” I said..

Using a piece of paper I purchased, I wrote my note. When I got back to Marie, I gave her what she needed, and I quietly asked a servant to give my note to Eleanor. Luckily, I did not have to worry about her walking in on me this time because she was still held up in her court duties.
About ten minutes later Eleanor walked in, and she seemed surprised to see me. As she walked in I said, “ I have something important to tell you. It’s about your husband … and Marie.”
“What is it? Tell me.” Eleanor said.
“ I do not know how to tell you this, so I am just going to say it…. your husband is cheating on you with Marie.This has been going on for a couple weeks now.”
Eleanor quietly walked to the door, closed it, walked back to me and said, “ Have you told anyone else besides me?”
“ No, only you. What do you want to do about it?” I said.
“Nothing right now, I don’t want anyone to find out about it until I actually know what is going on myself.” Eleanor
