During the first stanza, the narrator spoke about the tough times he decided to play safe; he first mentions the cold weather. The indication of the cold weather declares that the surrounding is harsh and bitter, thus people wear coats to protect themselves. At this point, the narrator declares that he cares for the nameless person he is serenading, and he does that by wanting to shelter them from the truth, thus assuring they do not get hurt. The lyrics continue, ‘But with the beast inside, There’s nowhere we can hide.’ Not only does the raconteur apply that he has a beast inside him, he also mentions that they cannot hide. An important factor to realize during the last line in this stanza, is that the lyrics clearly indicate that they cannot hide (hence the lyrics, ‘There’s nowhere we can hide’). This means that the narrator, too, wants to hide from the beast deep beneath his soul, but finds no place to hide. While others might run away and cower from the scary things in life, the narrator is forced to live with the beast that he cannot hide
