In the mock press release of “The Onion”, an article ridiculing the way businesses portrays their products to customers, the author uses diversified satirical approaches and sardonic diction to mock archetypical marketers and their selling strategies. In the introduction of the article, the author begins by speaking about the product being marketed to customers and the benefits that it supposedly offers. Stating that they “Stimulate and soothe the wearer’s feet”, makes it sound to be merely a typical, everyday ad seen while simply watching television or while on the computer (“The Onion, lines 3-4). Using creative diction and scientific-sounding words that have no real significance, the author mocks the way quintessential ads delude and manipulate their buyers into purchasing their allegedly admirable products.
