The planned change process allows me to meet the client where they are at, acknowledge strengths, recognize how systems impact one another, and identifies what we are working together to accomplish. On the other hand, I believe that the planned change process could detract from my abilities to be a more effective social worker if I encounter a situation that requires immediate action that I cannot provide. If I encountered a client that was suicidal it would be ineffective to apply the planned change process. Instead it would be more effective to seek mental health treatment immediately for the client.
The only question that I have as a result of my experience and critique of the planned change process is in relation to when would the planned change process detract from a social worker’s ability to be effective? I struggled to answer that question because the only time I could see it detracting effectiveness is in a crisis situation that would not allow time for the planned change process to be
