Every year in the United States, more than 800,000 young women become pregnant and 85% of these pregnancies are unintended ("Unintended Pregnancy in the United States"). Thus, to prevent unwanted pregnancies, there is the plan B pill. The plan B pill is an emergency contraceptive that is taken 72 hours after having unprotected sex. This pill has been made available over the counter for women. Yet, whether or not the plan B pill should be available over the counter to underage girls has created controversy. This is an issue because there is no need for teenagers to obtain parental consent to purchase the pill. However, underage girls should have access to plan B pills over the counter because a minor 's rights are protected, teen sexual activity will decrease due to its availability, and abortions and unwanted pregnancies will decrease.

But, it can be reduced by allowing minors to have over the counter access to the plan B pill. In fact, the government has no right to restrict over the counter access to minors for contraceptives. Furthermore, with its availability, teen sexual activity will decrease because the pill will have less importance. Not only can the government restrict the access nor teen sexual activity will decrease with the pill 's availability, but unintended pregnancies and abortions will also decrease because the pill is a safe and effective method. Therefore, minors should have over the counter access to the contraceptive because a minor 's rights are protected, teen sexual activity will decrease with its availability, and abortions and unwanted pregnancies will decrease. If America doesn 't want to have an infamous reputation of having high abortions and unwanted pregnancies, then over the counter access for minors should be enabled.
