The Places They Tell Us What To Say Analysis

Decent Essays
In the Bible, there are many places that tell us how we should talk, and what to say, and many other things about speech. For example. Matthew 12:34 "You snakes—how can you say good things when you are evil? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of." Here, its telling us that whatever comes out of our mouths, comes from our hearts, so if your heart is hard towards someone, you would probably speak harshly towards them. Another verse that talks about the mouth is in Matthew 15: 11 "It is not what goes into your mouth that makes you ritually unclean; rather, what comes out of it makes you unclean.” This verse is saying that we need to watch what comes out of our mouths and not just what comes in. A third verse that talks about talking is Colossians 4:6 "Your speech should always be pleasant and interesting, and you should know how to give the right answer to everyone." This verse is telling us that when we talk, we should always talk pleasant and interesting, and that we should give answers without hesitation.
A couple points to make sure your speech is in check are:
1. Watch your mouth, for whatever comes our of your mouth comes from your heart.

Make sure what comes out of your mouth is kind, not tearing down.
3. Give answers without hesitation, know the topic you are talking about.
There are many other different Bible verses that talk about speech and words, these are only a few, but if you follow these points, they might help you with your speech throughout

Over the course of the last few centuries, Christianity has been a driving force in the development of western culture. From igniting Crusades in the Middle Ages to introducing new words to the English vocabulary, the Christian religion has had a considerable influence on every aspect of the western culture known today; arguably, the arts and literature specifically were the most heavily impelled by Christianity. As Thomas C. Foster states in his book How to Read Like a Professor, writers of all forms of media are at least aware of the stories of the Bible, and use them in their works, whether it be a story structure or the names of people in biblical anecdotes. Because of this, it is interesting to notice that most classic novels (and even present works) use the idea of Jesus, or the Holy Spirit, in their narratives to create new yet familiar characters. Nathaniel Hawthorne…

Advice that is constantly given to people is to listen more than they talk. In the Christian faith it’s also talked about how God gave humans two ears and one mouth, suggesting he wants people to listen more. Hamlet by William Shakespeare is a case of this. Characters were constantly trying to get the upper hand on each other; Hamlet by acting crazy and using people, Claudius by having others spy on people, and Laertes by wildly hunting whoever he wanted. However, some strategies were more successful than others.…

One of my roommates in college was gay. He confided in me about his sexual preference, knowing I’d respect his confidence. Back then, gay people were openly ridiculed and rejected and attacked. I wish I could say this was no longer true, but obviously I can’t. We’ve come a long way, but what happened in Orlando and the reaction to it provide harsh reminders of how people hate those who are different from them in some way.…

Do you ever wonder what struggles come with independence? In life there are so many different paths you can take, but it’s your choice which paths you follow. The key question you should ask yourself when choosing your path in life would be, “Are you active or passive?” Whichever way you answer you will be taken to a place, good or bad, weather you realize it or not. In “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!”, independence is emphasized, not through the reality of an actual place, but through psychological guidance.…

Confucius spent most of his life teaching his way of ritual propriety to his disciples. In The Analects of Confucius, he states, “It is a rare thing for glib speech and an insinuating appearance to accompany authoritative conduct” (1.3). One of Confucius’s main lessons is the teachings of Ren and communication between one another. When Confucius states “glib speech” he is speaking of one as shallow, thoughtless, and misleading. Many times throughout Confucius’s teaching he mentions “glib tongue” or “glib speech” and he “hates those with a glib tongue” (11.25).…

The mixtape is made up of 15 songs in which Kehlani channels a mixture of longing and uncertainty about both, romantic and familial, relationships in her life. The mixtape’s cover sparked my intreset as it was a painted portrait of Kehlani on top of a building. For the purpose of this paper, I will attempt to answer this research question: How does Kehlani’s mixtape cover further embolden and highlight the mixtape’s themes? I will be using textual analysis and relying on my observations, to emphaize how an artist’s album cover is critical in predicting what their album’s main themes are.…

This section can be summed up in three words: Watch your tongue! We are more likely to sin with our mouth than any other way. A man who guards his mouth, guards his whole person. James calls the tongue, “a fire”; something that defiles the whole body; a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With our tongue we confess Christ as our Lord and Savior and with our tongue we curse Him.…

“Actions speak louder than words”, a saying i’m confident almost everyone has heard once or twice in their lifetime, is the epitome of why we should treat people rightfully. Though not everyone may see eye-to-eye on this, I firmly believe that the manner in which you treat someone greatly affects their perception of you. Actions are far more effective in comparison to words, the action behind the words is how you can differentiate between what is being said and what it sincerely insinuated. Of course, words have the ability to generate feelings in a person, but the way in which those words are expressed have a much stronger effect on cultivating emotions that will stick with a person for life. From personal experience I can affirm that…

It is the improvement of one’s condition through one’s own efforts. Benjamin Franklin’s plan for this was to acquire each of the thirteen virtues he created for himself, one by one.
