Although an aged written in 2009, the economist states that although economic depression discomforts the entertainment industry people need a change to escape and heroes to cheer for even more during these times (The Economist). This point appears to be the pivotal topic in NASCAR insulting themselves against another potential downturn. NASCAR made changes to the format and regulations to fuel more rivalries among the drivers and encouraged fan input from their social media presence which is what resulted in NASCAR still holding the number two spot after the economic downturn.
