The man is in the Inquisition, and could see the judges lips moving, but doesn’t believe what he hears. He’s sentenced to death.

The man wakes up but was afraid to open his eyes, frightened that he was gonna dislike what he see.
The man was curious about what happened and knew that the other people who were supposed to die already died. He realized the captors had another plan for him and fainted.
When the man awoke, he stretched out his arms, and felt a wall. He decided he was gonna walk around the room to see how large it was.

He discovered the room was about 100 paces, but then realized there was no point to this since he wouldn't escape. But he kept going.
The man kept walking and realized he almost fell into a pit and was proud of himself for not falling. He fell asleep again and awoke to a pitcher and bread.
The man fell asleep again. He awoke with a much clearer vision, realizing that he made many wrong assumptions about the room.
The man also realized there was a rope around him but his arm was free for him to eat. He also discovered above him was a painting of father time holding a huge pendulum that was briefly swaying right over the him.
The man turned his head to find enormous black rats running around. Then he looked up to see the sharp pendulum had come down a whole yard, he realized since he escaped the other room he would now be cut to shreds.
Over a couple days the pendulum fell more and more yards, some days he would try to just get it over with and force himself upwards but it didn't work. still desperate for food the man ate the bits the rats left him.
