Throughout history there have been many writers of all different kinds, poetry, books, plays, short stories and many others. These stories often times leave a legacy behind for these authors leaving their names in history books, forever remembered by future generations. Such stories have many ways of being interpreted and there are always small details that are never seen the first time reading. Often times this depends on the author, but many authors never go far off the beaten path compared to their other works. One of the best examples, Edgar Allan Poe is a fantastic writer whom started writing as early as the 1820’s but he later passed away in 1849. Amazingly Poe is still very well known, even in today’s standards to being an excellent.

With little to no details, this character must be in a world of trouble. “I saw clearly the doom which had been prepared for me, and congratulated myself upon the timely accident by which I had escaped. Another step before my fall, and the world had seem me no more” (The Pit and Pendulum Pg. 3) Continuing, the character beings to explore his cell which seems to be quite large for a prisoner and at one point he almost falls into a rather large pit almost dying in that moment. This story continues the strategy of being dark and cruel of unknown devious captors, often times staying on point in that way. Although this story began seemingly as a happy go lucky character it has begun to evolve into something completely different than expected. The differences in these two stories have dissipated and are merging together. The main character is now more, more aggressive and now even threating his own wife with violence. It seems as though this author has one main theme and that is indeed to be dark and cruel circumstances. These characters seem to continue to be one of the same but how similar are they really? One is a prisoner of unknowns in a dungeon of some kind with no real crime to be seen and the other has become an abuse husband that is no longer the man he once
