The Pistis Sophia links Mary and Jesus in a romantic way, but it also ties into the Gospel of Mary Magdalene where Peter is “hot-tempered”. The problem scholars have with this excerpt is that Mary the mother, Mary Magdalene, and Mary of Bethany were all mentioned in the Pistis Sophia and invited to these meetings with Jesus. Theorists consider Mary Magdalene and Mary of Bethany one and the same, yet there is no solid proof of that fact and the church acknowledges them as separate beings. So researchers are questioning whether the Mary that had sex with Jesus was Mary of Bethany or Mary Magdalene. But, this piece still provides evidence that Jesus did engage in intimate acts, whether or not it was with Mary Magdalene.
