The Pillowman Play Analysis

The Pillowman was an interesting play. It was one of the best theatrical performances I have experienced. Not only the design, costumes, acting but the story line. It made you think about the social experiment the parents performed on Katurian. It made me question why parents were evil in how they abused Michal and experimented on Katurian, was it for their own fun? Or was there a purpose? But also the stories Katurian wrote were terrifying that someone could think that way. Needless to say it was quite an experience. One part of the play I did not understand were the characters walking around the seating area throughout the play. I assumed it was to help it create a totalitarian government feeling while they interrogated Katurian. The overall message of the play was slightly direct and the title helped the understanding later in the play when Katurian delivers his monologue about the “The Pillowman”, one of his short stories. …show more content…
It made it highlight that part of story and for it to stick out. Whenever someone had an important story to tell a spotlight would follow them and this heighten the importance as well, for example towards the end of the play after Katurian was killed he is followed by the spotlight and he tells us about The Pillowman and in result it heightens its importance. The design of the scenes helped with understanding of what was going on, especially the interrogation room and when Katurian and Michal were in prison cells. The costumes of all the character created and heighten the totalitarian government
