The pigs in the book Animal Farm were horrible leaders. Orwell, the author, introduces many poor characteristics of a bad leader when he writes about how the pigs. The pigs try and change the commandments to what they wanted them to be, make lies about different animals so that people believe him, and all the pigs wanted to do their separate thing that did not involve the other animals. Nelson Mandela was the total opposite as the pigs because he was a good leader in trying to help South Africa. Unlike the pigs in Animal Farm, Nelson Mandela embodies the characteristics of a strong leader because he being trustworthy, having confidence, and being aware.

After the pigs decided to do nothing, Orwell says “did not actually work” to say that the pigs are stubborn. Demonstrating the collaborative work the pigs did were no help to the farm. The pigs just sat back and talked when they wanted to but, never helped with a problem they had. They just changed the issue they were having with a specific problem but never fixed it to make it work. Since Mandela is aware, “Mandela, cognizant that many years and generations would pass before the deep wounds of apartheid were remedied, cautioned his people not to expect change overnight” (Mandela). Being a good leader does not mean it is okay to do anything. Nelson Mandela knew that and stayed involved in everything. Therefore, Nelson Mandela showed good leadership with he focused on being aware with all things going on. Nelson Mandela demonstrated the characteristics of being trustworthy, having confidence, and being collaborative way better than the pigs did in Animal Farm.
