The two main conflicts: A book would be bland without a conflict, however The Pigman by Paul Zindel does not disappoint by providing a plethora of difficulties and hardships throughout the novel. The story is told in the point of view of John Conlan and Lorraine Jensen, due to the fact that the book is told …show more content…
John portrayed himself in a different light due to his impulsive habit of lying. Lorraine depicts John and his persona honestly, she describes John as extremely handsome which is her reasoning to why John never gets in trouble, he is also known to be an extreme liar who completely distorts reality, an extreme drinker/smoker, and very uncompassionate in many circumstances. Lorraine painted a picture of who she really was as well; Lorraine described herself to be a compassionate towards others this is showed when she defended her teachers, she also views herself as ugly, honest, shy, and paranoid. Lorrain also describes how tough times where for their teachers such as Miss Stewart who has a sick mother in order to defend them form John’s rude remarks that where made in the previous chapter. Prior to the end of the chapter Lorraine told the story of her moving to John’s neighborhood as well as the story of her and John meeting. This story she told story showed when she moved to this new neighborhood she grew very depressed due to the fact that she didn’t make any friends at her school until to the very day where she meets John on their school bus where the two became the best of …show more content…
This chapter showed that John has always strived to become an actor and Lorraine has strived to become a great writer. John also talked about how his father and he are a rocky point in their relationship and they don’t get along very well. John also claims that the cause of Lorraine’s lack of self confidence is due to her mother describing her as horrendous, John believes Lorraine’s mother is distorting the truth and all Loraine needs is more confidence. John lastly tells his stories of phone call marathons with Lorraine Jensen, Norton Kelly, and Dennis Kobin, John explains what the marathon calling was, it is when you call a random number and test how long they will stay on the phone before hanging up. John depicted the game as all fun, and he stated that Lorraine was the one to find the Pigman’s phone number so she can’t blame him for getting involved with the Pigman, John also strongly believes that the Pigman was at the edge of his lifespan and all they did is speed up the
