In the novel, The Pigman by Paul Zindel, two teens fool an old man, but find the most valuable friendship they will never get again. John Conlan and Lorraine Jenson are two, out of the four in their group, friends that find the friendship of a lifetime. One night, they do their normal routine when hanging out with their friends Norton and Dennis, and have a competition. They compete to see who can have the longest conversation,using prevarications, with a stranger on the phone. Lorraine picks a man by the name of Mr. Pignati, and asks him if he would like to donate money to their nonexistent charity. John plans to meet Mr. Pignati at his favorite place, the zoo. Lorraine is very antagonistic, and has great anxiety about the idea of stealing

John and Lorraine attempt to cheer Mr. Pignati up by putting on their roller skates and playing games. The game becomes too intense for Mr. Pignati’s health, and he has a heart attack. Mr. Pignati is rushed to the hospital and John and Lorraine visit him. A couple days later, John and Lorraine, with proficiency, decide to tidy Mr. Pignati’s house, and that night John kisses Lorraine. The next evening, John decides he wants to have some friends over for beer and some hor d’oeuvres, but the word gets out and it turns into a disastrous party. Norton, the most infantile friend of John and Lorraine’s, was not invited to this party, but showed up anyways. The party gets out of hand, and Norton starts to shatter the pigs in Mr. Pignati’s pig room. John strives to stop Norton, but they end up in a brutal fight. That evening, Mr. Pignati comes home from the hospital to an eradicated house, where his heart is broken. John and Lorraine are arrested and taken home that night. The next morning, they decide to apologize to Mr. Pignati, so they invite him to the zoo with them. When they arrive at the zoo, they directly go to see Bobo. They all learn that Bobo has died from pneumonia, and Mr. Pignati’s heart is crushed. Mr. Pignati has another heart
