The Development of the Piano
The piano being one of the most influential instruments throughout time has had an amazing history that directly affected the development of modern music and instruments. The piano is one of the most historically important instruments ever made. The piano can be seen in the use of music way back in the 1600’s and is still being used frequently today.
The first stringed instrument known to date is the clavichord. The clavichord is a historic instrument which debuted in the 1600s and was still used in the late 1800s. The sound of the clavichord was very small and its appearance on the outside is a small box with provides two strings for every note. The sound is created on the clavichord by striking the strings. Prior to the newly invented piano there was only the clavichord and harpsichord which only played soft sounds. This piano he created allowed you to play both loudly and softly. The difference in the instruments was clearly in the mechanics. For the piano rather than plucking or or striking the keys, you hit a key and then a hammer strikes the key and the note rings out and sustains until you let the key go. He was a classical pianist and composer born in December in 1770 in Germany. His father taught him to play the key board, violin, and the viola when he was only five years old. At the age of ten he dropped out of school to study music and his first compositions were composed when he was twelve years old. He was attempting to follow in the steps of Mozart as his father had always wished. He never got to meet Mozart but he did find success as a composer in Vienna. Beethoven suffered a tragedy and became deaf. His ninth symphony which premiered in 1824 in thought of as one of the best composed musical pieces in western music.
