Today pianos are in popular demand. They can be grand pianos or they can be pianos used in everyday classrooms. Pianos have evolved so much since the 1700s. There are many different type of pianos you can buy now a days. Also new technology has help the piano to become what it is today. Also pianos are made of many different and new materials that they may not have had back then. I have done some research to find out what the piano is, how it is played, what it is made of, and the different types. I also have found out who started the evolution of the piano we have today. Who actually invented the piano? Many would say a man named Bartolomeo di Francesco Cristofori invented the piano. But it dates way farther back than 1709. The piano we have today was developed by a man named Bartolomeo di Francesco Cristofori. Cristofori was born in Pauda, Italy on May 4, 1655 and later died in Florence, Italy on January 27, 1731. He was a harishord maker, a harpsichord is an instrument like the piano but the sound is made by strings being plucked. Although he was given the credit for the invention of the piano, it dates way farther back. People used to tie strings to bows or boxes to make the sound it made louder. So did he actually invent the piano? No, he just help the developing of the piano in many helpful ways. Cristofori did build the first ever actual piano and made many alterations along the way. Today there many different types of pianos such as, player pianos, digital pianos, software, and the traditional piano. Another man named Gottfried Silbermann also was a part of the creation of the modern piano. He would make exact copies of Cristofori’s pianos, but he had added the damper pedal. The damper pedal allows the composer/player to lift the dampers from the strings all at once. This is still in effect to this very
