Personal Statement
Throughout the past year of studying biology at A level, I have become increasingly interested in it. I am fascinated by how complex the human body is and how it works in health and disease. These diseases occur in numerous ways and by studying physiology we can see where normal bodily procedures go wrong and can lead to the development of conditions such as diabetes, asthma or cystic fibrosis. Learning more about these diseases can in turn lead us to finding treatment or cures and hopefully create a better life for future populations. I am particularly interested in exercise physiology and how athletes for example can train their bodies to function in extreme environments such as marathons across deserts. I am intrigued to learn more about physiology as it informs us of how a simple daily activity like exercising can lower our blood pressure and therefore be used as therapy to some diseases, especially cardiovascular diseases. I plan on doing that by volunteering at nearby hospitals to gain some work experience involving aspects of medicine and physiology to help widen my understanding of how physiology is practised in modern day society. Additionally I plan hope to travel abroad to Australia and experience working in a variety of careers, I am keen to work at a horse ranch and challenge myself by living and working abroad in an unknown place that pushes my personal boundaries. Having already lived abroad in Germany, I have experience of going to an international school with a vast variety of cultures and learning how to get integrate into a society. I think that this experience will help me greatly with university as it taught me to learn and adapt to different places or people quickly whilst also having the chance to make new friends with completely different backgrounds to my
