The body is the most important thing to humans than anything else. It is important to take care of the body from any harm. One thing that the body is capable of is maintaining pH levels and buffers. A pH is the power of hydrogen and buffers prevent extreme shifts in pH. The blood has a specific type of buffer that is maintained at pH level of 7.4. If the buffers shifts and levels of pH go to 7 or 7.8, it can be deadly. The blood buffer contains carbonic acid which dissociates into bicarbonate acid and hydrogen ions. This equation can also be reversed; it is a chemical equilibrium. If the hydrogen ions rise, bicarbonate accepts the hydrogen ions and the equilibrium shifts left thus making the blood acidic. When the blood becomes acidic, acidosis occurs. Acidosis is a condition in which there is too much acid in the body fluids. Acidosis is classified as either respiratory or metabolic acidosis. The lungs are one of the most important organs in the body. The anatomy of the lungs starts when a person breathes in air. The air then goes into the windpipe into a tube in the lungs called the bronchial tubes. The bronchial tubes then branch into thousands of smaller and thinner tubes called bronchioles. The bronchioles each end in tiny round air sacs called alveoli. The small blood vessels called capillaries run through the walls of the air sac. The primary function of the lung is to transport oxygen into red blood cells and to get rid of carbon dioxide at the same time.…
