Even though these underwater wind turbines use the current of the ocean rather than wind, the same technology that the above ground wind turbines use are used in the underwater windfarms (Fraenkel 2004). Again Shadbolt reports that all the complications that could arise from putting this kind of technology underwater has already been thought out. With all the research that I found about wind turbines I know now what all the side effects of these low frequency sound waves are and what they can do to one’s health. When searching for news articles on wind energy I came across a lot of positive articles on wind energy and how it can greatly benefit our nation and our world, but seemed to not come across to much of the downside of wind turbines and the potential hazards they have on our health and even the environment. It wasn’t until I started narrowing down my search and specifically searching for exact topics like that of low frequency sound waves and damage to the ecosystem that wind turbines have did I start to find just a handful of articles and reports in the news that covered them. This is where I think the news got it wrong. I feel as though if the news could cover all the benefits that wind energy has on the planet it as well needs to out as much insight into the effects that it could have on the planet and the organisms that live on it as …show more content…
News reports try and spark the reader’s attention by exclaiming how construction of these wind farms could potentially open up thousands of jobs or U.S. citizens which they know American is always in the need for jobs. Ehren Goossens, a reporter for Bloomberg Business, reports that “building and operating a typical utility-scale wind farm creates 1,079 jobs over its lifetime”. This sparks interest in the reader and in return allows the reader to automatically be for wind energy just based solely on that fact. I feel as though the news presents what the readers want to hear and what sparks their interest in turn making what the news is reporting
