The balloon is placed on a contraption which was custom built to provide the desired gravitational potential energy between the balloon (or object) and a strip of wood. The apparatus also is able to exert a normal force on the balloon which equals the force due to gravity. This allows the balloon to be held up until there is a new force applied to it horizontally.
The train begins to move forward and creates more tension on the string which is tied to both the balloon and the train. Once the train begins to move, more forces are applied to the balloon. These forces include both tension and friction. Since there is no structure opposing the gravitational force once it is pulled to the right, the balloon begins to accelerate downwards.

The sailboat is aloft a tray filled with water. At the end of the tray, there is a strip of wood which is pushed by the kinetic energy of the boat. In relation to physics as well, the air waves are also an example of transverse waves. The blades of the fan are moving perpendicular to the produced waves in the form of wind. The sails of the boat contain some of the wind energy (provided by the fan) and use it to accelerate in the same direction it received this energy. The boat also shows that once all this energy is channelled, it will begin to move at a constant velocity. The fan resembles an external force acting on an object. In relation to forces, this shows that an object can only be moved as a result of an external force acting on it. The boat was designed according to Newton’s second law of motion. To create a greater acceleration rate, a carton of milk was used. The carton is very low in mass which allows for greater acceleration since the acceleration is inversely proportional to the mass of the
