Galileo Galilei was one of the scientist that studied sound during the 1500’s (“sound”). To some people even say he is one of the greatest scientist especially for the topic of sound (“sound”). People claim this because Galileo was able to show the pitch of a sound was calculated by how often sound waves passed (“sound”). Although Galileo Galilei made a great contribution to the understanding of sound he was not the only one to contribute to the discoveries. Leonardo DaVinci was one of those who contributed greatly to these discoveries. In particular he discovered that sound moves in waves (“sound”). Another important contributor was Marin Mersenne who was the first man who successfully calculated how fast sound was while travelling through the medium, air (“sound”). The person who discovered that a medium was indispensable for sound waves, was Robert Boyle (“sound”). Yet another important scientist who not only contributed to the studies of sound was Sir Isaac Newton. He learned that all sound’s speed was affected by the medium it travels through (“sound”). He also learned other aspects of mediums and how they affect sound. The final scientist I will discuss is Daniel Bernoulli, and he made discoveries about frequencies …show more content…
One of the things that requires math when talking about sound is the speed of sound. The formula for this is exactly as it is when calculating the speed of any other concept; the distance divided by the time will give you the speed. Something that affects the speed of a wave is the medium, which is critical in determining the speed of a wave. If a medium has elastic characteristics, the speed will be less than an object with inertial properties.
Sound and music have plenty of vocabulary terms one of which is frequency. Frequency is how often a wave passes through a medium. Frequency is measured in Hertz or Hz- for short. Basically one hertz equals one vibration each second. The pitch of sound is related to frequency in the same manner. What I mean by this is that the higher the pitch the higher the frequency. Sound is measured is measured in decibels or dB- doe short. A waves length is called a wavelength in this wavelength there is a crest, and a through. The crest is the high part of the wave. On the other hand, the through is the lowest point of a wave.
In conclusion sound and music is very useful during our everyday lives and would not lead the lives we do today if it weren’t for sound and
