Through analysis of Lee Burdette Williams’s article “”Safe” is in the Brain of the Beholder”, it is clear that she deliberately employs a blend of pathos and logos to relay her message that, while freedom of expression is important, students and educators alike must be considerate of the needs of others. In her article, Williams uses precise language, including pathos to probe her readers’ emotional and empathetic sides, as well as logos to add believability and substantiate her argument. Williams’s article “”Safe” is in the Brain of the Beholder” that speaks directly to students and college educators, is both fairly written and successful at utilizing logos and pathos to formulate an argument to encourage her audience to look past differences…

The Walton Arts and Ideas Series did not look as something that would interest me, but Rick Bragg definitely proved me wrong. Listening to Rick Bragg talking about Southern identity and self-image was a pleasant experience. Besides, his delivering skills were very good and able to catch the audience attention. Indeed, it is not just the funny experiences he told that day, but also how he told them which made the whole speech a worthwhile one. Therefore, it is pertinent to analyze the strengths and the weaknesses of Bragg’s speech to learn from the good techniques he applied and to understand the weaknesses.…

After last week’s writing, I found myself in quite a fog of insecurity. Thankfully the most recent installment of YITE brought me back to the sunny side of teaching philosophy. Reading about the art of teaching was rather inspiring even. The quote from the text, “approaching instruction in a variety of ways to provide multiple paths for students to both learn the content and develop the skills of the curriculum is artistry (pg 147),” caught my attention. Often in my life I have gotten the impression that some people consider the position of a teacher as that of merely a figurehead, an adult to put in front of a group of kids to keep them occupied.…

I have enjoyed very much the presentation of Joel Selanikio, titled “Big data revolution in healthcare”. First of all, I found his presentation very inspiring. I’m personally huge believer in helping less privileged, less fortunate people. I remember when I was a kid, my school was visited by missionary from Africa. She was talking about heartaches of every day life, including healthcare, especially malaria disease.…

Just two weeks ago, I had helped create and co-host a facilitated class for one of my courses based on the doctrines of peer mentoring, called SCIE 511. SCIE 511 itself is a revolutionary class unlike any university courses I have taken before in my life. I find it both radical and empowering to allow the students/mentors take reign over the class for a whole hour, while the professor oversees but does not disrupt the creative process of the students. The class I co-facilitated was based on Jack Mezirow’s theory of transformative learning. Based on the ideas he presented in his paper, the two other mentors in my group…

Drawing on historical figures such as Paul Revere and his midnight ride to inform colonial Americans that the British forces were arriving to support his thesis.…

The History of our World in 18 minutes by David Christian is a fascinating talk to anyone out there. I was looking for something with relevance to science and I came across this video on Youtube. It is an interesting topic that many with religious views could just pass because of their beliefs. Although many people believe that the world was created in a religious way, I believe that this TED talk could be important and that The Big History will show you the complexity of our planet. David Christian’s purpose for this talk is to educate children and future generations to come.…
