The phrase, “Knowledge is power,” is influential in the school setting. Parents send their children to school because they want them to receive a quality education. They understand the demand for learning because you must learn in order to be knowledgeable. Our world relies on knowledge. Without knowledge, one cannot make progress, expand on what one already knows, or be an asset to society. Our world has reached a point in which it needs influential, intelligent members of society. With the latest issues, such as technological races, potent wars, and struggling education, these members are a necessity. As children grow up, they have the potential to become life-changing individuals. Going to school should involve learning character development and self-realization. I value the Christian approach because I believe God holds the knowledge about the individual’s destiny. Students must discover their destiny through seeking wisdom and thinking logically. These values represent the idealist approach. Idealists believe God holds the truth and individuals must discover who God created you to be. In addition to these values and this approach, education should provide the learning necessary to create a better society. Education should be involved in every aspect of life. Going to school prepares children for the rest of their lives. Students should learn how to utilize their experiences to solve their problems. These beliefs reflect the pragmatist approach because pragmatism stresses the importance of education in everyday life. It also believes in using experiences to solve society’s problems.
