The excerpt from The Philosophical Breakfast Club has many similarities to college in the present. Firstly, the formation of clubs is similar. People who have a common interest in a topic, gather together to discuss and argue about their passion. William and the rest of the club all realized that there was a single topic that bound them together, science. They continued to explore that topic making various advances in their own life and the lives of others. Another similarity is that people from struggling backgrounds can make it to top colleges. William was the son of a carpenter, however, due to his intellect and ability he was able to display it to important people and gain a spot at Trinity College. Anime and manga have a large variety of topics and themes to discuss about from horror to adventure. One of the great things about them is that anyone can find their own genre and create their own preference of different shows and books to watch and enjoy. Our group would conduct meetings in an empty classroom or open space. We would be an open conversation were we would talk about different things or one singular topic. The most important part would be us all having fun.
In conclusion, The Philosophical Breakfast Club is a good comparison to modern college life. It has not only shown that college has evolved over the ages but that some aspects have remained mostly unchanged.
