The Philadelphia 76ers trend is upward sloped, and attendance increased as the Sixers win percentage went up. From 1994 to 2013 for the most part there wasn’t much divergence from the line of best fit expect for in the years 2001 and 2003. In the year 2001 the divergence is extreme; based on the line of best fit, one would expect approximately 80 % attendance for a 52% win rate, however this was not the case. In 2001 the attendance was at the Sixers highest between the years of 1994-2013 at 94.9%. The reason for such high attendance was the previous year the Sixers had an excellent win percentage of 68.3% this lead them into the playoffs, all the way to the final game, where they lost to the LA Lakers. Leading into the 2001 season everyone had high expectations for the Sixers, shooting up the attendance in hopes of the Sixers making it as far as they did the previous year. …show more content…
This caused the Sixers to go 0-5, however Iverson and McKie returned to lead the Sixers into a 7 consecutive win streak. The season went on plagued with injuries, they did make it to the playoff, but were defeated early on resulting in a 43-39 season. Additionally to the high expectations from the previous year, the Sixers signed Center Dikembe Mutombo. Mutombo is known to be one of the best shot blockers and defensive players. Another year that stood out was 2003. Despite an extremely low win rate of 42% the attendance was soaring at 89%.
