Well, according to the book its states that “Personality is a stable set of characteristics and tendencies that determine those commonalities and differences in the psychological behavior (thoughts, feelings, and actions) of people that have continuity in time and that may or may not be easily understood in terms of the social and biological pressures of the immediate situation alone” (1972, p. 9).
There are also four main approaches to personality and they are called: The psychodynamic approach: Various conflicts throughout childhood development shape overall personality. Example ( “ A Woman who is having too much sex is considered a Jezebel.”) which in this case, I would have to disagree with because women should have the privilege to do whatever their hearts desire. Another abnormality is called Maladaptive behaviors refer to types of behaviors that inhibit a person 's ability to adjust to particular situations. Example: throws body to the floor, swings arms, kicks legs and cries. The third one is called; Personal distress is the name for the low moods or discomfort that results when empathetic people become too deeply involved in others’ pain. It is often the result of negative life experiences, including divorce, sexual dysfunction.
