Persuasive Speech: How Drunk Driving Has Changed My Life

Improved Essays
I confuse you, I cause you to stop thinking straight, you become careless, your vision blurs, your speech slurs, your judgment becomes impaired, you may go unconscious, or black out, even worse, into a coma, but the scariest thing about me is that I have the power to drastically damage and change your life forever in three main ways: physically, mentally and emotionally. I’m just a bottle of alcohol, there’s honestly nothing special about me. “Do not even think of driving that vehicle with me in your system.” Anyone could repeat those same words over and over again yet there would still be thousands of intoxicated drivers on the roads not thinking straight and making careless errors These are the types of careless errors that cause fatal accidents …show more content…
I was the cause of the death of a loved one, because of the fact that I had been consumed before the driver got in the car, you have lost someone so special to you. Drunk driving is a huge issue that should not be ignored. Drunk driving. Those two words are so short yet represent a horrible act of immaturity and selfishness, which makes me think three things that I will address in my essay: first of all, how people, mainly teens, are so willing to do anything it takes to fit in with society, even if it means doing something so irresponsible such as driving under my influence, secondly, how it is so easy to avoid dangerous drunk driving situations, and finally how drinking me may change your life in a horrible way, as well as the side effects and consequences of consuming …show more content…
To feel a sense of satisfaction for a few hours? To lose complete control of your body? It is important to be smart about drinking and make the right decisions, ones that won’t impact your life in a horribly negative way. Drunk driving is 110% preventable and it is something that is completely up to you. Risk your life and others around you or make smart choices that will not hurt anyone. We need to be the ones to put an end to drunk driving. We need to end this madness of killing people who were innocent and had so much life left in them. Society must save the young lives that chose to put their egos and themselves at risk on the daily. Society has an enormous impact on the lives of teenagers and must learn to stand up to driving under my influence. Once again, I am just a bottle of alcohol, I have absolutely no value when it comes to saving lives and preventing serious damage to people in our society. Don’t you dare get in that vehicle and drive it with me in your system. It is better to be “looked down upon” by your society than to be the main cause of a fatality and a sense of guilt and regret for the rest of your

Since this process is hard enough for someone who is sober, it is made extremely hard and dangerous for those who are drunk and driving. Reduced concentration can change the situation a person is in when driving in a split second. “In 2014, 9,967 people were killed in alcohol-impaired driving crashes, accounting for nearly one-third (31%) of all traffic-related deaths in the United States” ("Impaired Driving: Get the facts"). Drinking and driving rates increase, and it is usually not just one person killed in these car collisions. Drunk drivers can have others in the car with them, and then they hit another car. A family on their way home, or another teen who chose not to drink and drive, who chose to be safe, can lose their lives in a matter of seconds because of one poor decision. Parents are concerned. In her article, “A Lower Age Would Be Unsafe”(2008), Laura Dean-Mooney generalizes that adults are not comfortable with the drinking age lowering.…

When was the last time you heard anything about one’s alcohol consumption killing someone? Not frequently enough, in fact, there are an average of 115 people killed daily due to someone's choice to drink irresponsibly, but society fails to emphasize the impact drunk driving has on America. Alcohol is something seriously abused within society and the consequences that come with its maltreatment need stronger enforcement. The effects of drunk driving can do so much more than take someone’s life; it ripples throughout a community and causes havoc among hundreds of people.…

Driving under the influence is clearly not a good thing, but its severity and method of prevention are called into question. By making clear the seriousness and consequences of drunk driving, I will attempt to prove which course of actions should be attempted.…
