The Myers-Briggs Personality Test (MBPT)

Everybody knows the definition of a personality is the combination of characteristics or qualities that form an individual’s distinctive character, but what really makes up a person’s personality? The Myers- Briggs Personality Test (MBPT) is based off of Carl Jung’s theory of psychological types. Carl Jung’s theory is that when a person is awake they are constantly interpreting information and then making choices. He devised eight different patterns of doing so. The first personality is extravert or introvert. An extravert enjoys being around other people and socializing while an introvert requires their private and alone time. Second a person is either sensing or intuitive. A sensing personality will pay attention to the sensory details of …show more content…
On this website the description of an MBPT states, “ESTJ’s promote work ethic. Power, position, and prestige should be worked for and earned,”(Jump Typology Test). I basically live by this motto. I want to be powerful and well known and I work my tail off trying to achieve that goal. Another so accurate it’s scary fact is that, “ Much of their evaluation of persons and activities reflects their strong sense of what is ‘normal’ and what isn’t,” (Jump Typology Test). One of my biggest flaws is that I am an extremely opinionated and judgemental person about what is right and wrong, normal and abnormal, even when it comes to myself. On the other website my results came back as ENFJ. “Persuader. Outstanding leader of groups,” (Personality Types) are some of the characteristics of an ENFJ and all characteristics of me. My suggested careers were less than accurate saying that I should be a teacher or supervisor. “Teachers are remarkably good with language, especially when communicating in speech, face to face. And they do not hesitate to speak out and let their feelings be known,” (Keirsey Temperament Website - Portrait of the Idealist® Teacher (ENFJ) ). While I may be super bossy and the description of a teaching is a description of me I know that these career choices would bore me and I wouldn’t be satisfied. In the future I would like to major in English and then pursue a career writing for magazines, news, working for a publishing company, and possibly editing. My ideal job is fast paced with deadlines and something new, as well as exciting, as frequent as every

The writer in the story "Discovering Yourself with Myers-Briggs" instantly caught my attention in the first paragraph leaving a questionnaire for you to answer. In my opinion the author motivates the reader's diligence to discover what these questions mean. Wendy goes into great detail in discussing the methods of determining one's personality through Myers-Briggs Type Indicator test categorized in three dimensions: extroversion versus introversion, sensation versus intuition, and thinking versus feeling. She also gives a lot of factual information and breaks down what each dimension means for that particular personality. I think the conclusion is summed up nicely, she does a good job of linking the main points in order and characterizing…
