It makes common logic that an area where one spends a large amount of their time would be visibly affected by the person spending their time there. People represent their personality through nearly everything they do, and many of these actions and habits leave marks on their surroundings. These marks can provide great insight into multiple facets of the personality of a room’s owner. My room is no exception, and contains many traces of my personality densely populating the small surface area. Over the past 5 years the configuration of my beside table has remained unchanged, with features being added slowly over time. I made no decisions in the design of my room to portray myself to other people, only to reflect myself in my room. To me, the idea of changing my own personal living space just to impress an opinion onto other people seems superfluous and unnecessary. I only want people to see who I am or who I aspire to be, and if I design my space mostly out of Self-Directed Identity Claims then that will accomplish the task. Yet, that may in itself be example of an Other-Directed Claim in that I may want others to see me as independent and my own person and therefore purposefully excluding physical Other-Directed Claims from my …show more content…
I designed every bit of it to satisfy me and represent me in some way. I wanted every part to feel like home and help me to adjust to the college lifestyle. Compared to my room back home, there is definitely not as many representative items here, many of the furniture pieces in my room are here out of pure necessity, however what I was able to control I made certain to carefully plan out as well as I could. My living arrangements may not complete representation of my personality, but it is an accurate one. I believe that someone visiting would be able to gleam at least a few key aspects of my person from my room. I tried to make my room as accurate a representation of myself as I could, and I believe that people would be able to get a decent sense of me through what I have
