Writer- director Stephen Chbosky’s novel, first published by MTV Books in 1999, named ‘The Perks of being a Wallflower’ strongly features its main central themes why we chose to love those who appreciate us the least and the struggle to understand the terrible and inevitable things that happen to ourselves and those we love. To show depth in the movie and intriguing the audience on Charlie’s troubled past, Chbosky uses flashbacks to his early childhood, to reflect back to his present life. Repetition was used as a rhetorical technique to add emphasis and power to different kinds of love
Adequately, Chbosky brings to screen a variety of different and unique characters. With each character, Chbosky was able to pull through and explore the themes of love and different kinds of love. Suggesting throughout the film ‘We accept the love we think we deserve’ first quoted by Charlie’s English teacher Mr. Anderson, played by Paul Rudd.
