‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’ is an American coming-of-age, comedy- drama film. As advocated from the metaphorical title it promotes the message of being unique in a positive approach by reflecting on the issue of not changing your personality to fit in. A wallflower is acknowledged to sit on the wall alone, although it has its own individual beauty, it appears incongruous. This relates to the main character Charlie, a socially awkward outcast teen whom lived life from the sidelines, until two charismatic students let him in. They assist Charlie with discovering the joys of friendship, first love and his dreams of becoming a writer. As this film reacts the stereotypical journey of teenagers ‘growing up’, attending high school and dealing with emotions and relationships, the target audience is adolescents. …show more content…
The film was released in 2012 with a positive response, this commercially popular film earnt $33.4 million. However the success was initially influenced by the exhilarating and intriguing film trailer used to appeal the target audience. Trailers are very significant within the film industry as they supply an opportunity for film-makers to attract a sufficient anticipated audience before the movie’s release. By thoroughly examining ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’ trailer, an analysis can be implemented on how the author used particular film techniques such as sound, text and camera shots to communicate their intended message whilst capture the audience’s attention which influenced the formation of large crowds flocking to their nearest cinema to view this
