The Perks Of Being A Wallflower Report

I have to be honest, I’m not a fan of reading books after I finish them. After that last word, I know the climax and I expect the conflict. But there is a single exception, The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. My very favorite bildungsroman. I’ve read it several times, and each year I read it I am older. I realize I am coming of age. Stephen Chbosky wrote a novel that timelessly encompasses the sadness, fear, and liberation high school brings. It’s a day-read that, under the surface, reveals more and more of an intense undertone of the childhood that formed Charlie, the main character. The Perks of Being a Wallflower taught me to look deeper than the surface and to reflect on the events that shaped me. After all, everyone has

To say that I am a reader would be a stretch. I can not remember the last time I picked up a book for my own personal pleasure. Some would say that should bother me, but I can’t agree with the reasoning behind it. Mostly people bring up how books have broadened their horizons and changed their way of thinking, which is something I can’t relate to. Instead, I would say that I agree with what a good book should do, but I can‘t say I have found a good book, or a page turner if you will.…

During the summer, I devour the books that I didn't have time to read during the school year. I'm hungry for the kind of "can't-put-it-down-stay-up-all-night" experience I so cherished as a child. I found that three times this summer: In "All the Light We Cannot See" by Anthony Doerr, "Helter Skelter" by Vincent Bugliosi, and "Go Set a Watchman", Harper Lee's eagerly awaited second (but maybe first) novel about Scout all grown up. The first, "All the Light I Cannot See", I slurped up in three night's, after waiting for much of the summer on the library's waiting list.…

When you stop learning new things your identity will be complete, but since you are always learning and always getting smarter your identity will never be complete. Your identity is based on the people around you, the environment, the people you are with everyday and, and all of the experiences you have been through. An author will not be able to reveal the full identity of a character because as the story goes on the character will meet new people, change the setting they were last in, and they will come across new things that will change them as a person. The Effects of Sexual Abuse in Perks of Being a Wallflower Charlie, the lead character in Stephen Chboksy’s Perks of Being a Wallflower, has a best friend who committed suicide the year before he would have entered high school with him. The reason is never revealed in Perks, but it can be inferred he had family troubles. This is considered a realistic scenario in our society. Suicide is the second leading cause of death in people age fifteen to nineteen, and as a society, people have recently come together and recognized it as a problem that must dealt with, and it has been deemed “mainstream” enough to be considered appropriate to talk about in teenage literature. Why, then, is sexuality and the abuse that can come with it - a problem nearly…
