The Perihelion: The Real Cause Of Seasons

Decent Essays
There are two ways the earth rotates. It rotates around the sun and spins. When the earth orbits around the sun and gives us our year. Seasons are different times in the year when the earth gets hot on one side and cold on the other. I am going to talk about how the seasons are created and why they occur at different times in the year.

At different times in the earths orbit it is a different distance away from the sun. When the earth is closest to the sun it is called the perihelion. When the earth is the farthest from the sun it is called the aphelion. Some people think that the cause of the seasons is based on the perihelion and the aphelion. The real reason for seasons is the earths tilt. The earths tilt also known as obliquity

1.Because of the Earths daily rotation it causes the sun to appear to rise in the east and set in the west so it creates a day and night so the moon relies on the sun to set and rise during a certain time in the hemisphere 2.The seasons result from the 23.5-degree tilt of the Earth's axis combined with its revolution around the sun 3.The Moon's and Sun's gravitational pulls on Earth are responsible for this natural phenomenon creating the tides. Tides occur because the Moon's gravity decreases with distance from the Moon. 4. The seasons are created by the tilt, 23.5 degrees, of the Earth’s axis and the position of the Earth in terms of its revolution around the Sun. A hemisphere will experience summer when it is tilted towards the Sun, while the other hemisphere experiences winter. If a hemisphere is tilted towards the Sun, it is receiving more sunlight and therefore it must be summer. This works the other way around as well; if a hemisphere is tilted away from the Sun, it is receiving less sunlight and therefore it is winter. At the end of the day, the seasons exist because of the Earth’s tilted axis and its revolutions around the Sun.…

The majority of us have always wondered how this time we often talk about became what it is now. Different cultures created calendars to reflect time within their cultures. Whether it is Egyptian, Gregorian or Mayan, they are all similar in the same way that these all made time according to their culture. They all contributed an idea of what our calendar is now. These cultures helped to improve by adding the significant symbol in which they believed in, and what the cultures thought were important.…

Modern day people have a strange affinity for using aspects of ancient cultures as a basis for their cults, prophecies and as spiritual guides to the future. Perhaps the most memorable occurrence of this affinity was the infamous prophecy concerning the Mayan Apocalypse of 2012, an idea created from belief that the world would end or change in some fashion once that year ended. Of all the actions generated by the aforementioned mentality, this prophecy was perhaps the most ridiculous considering how obviously wrong it was and how little we really know about Mayan culture, iconography, and language. The Mayan Apocalypse of 2012 was the belief that either cataclysmic or transformative events would occur that year on December 21st.…

The planet Earth orbits in such a way that it can cause an ice age. In order for this type of ice age to occur there would have to be many different things that must occur all at once. There is nothing the human civilization could possibly do about the orbit either to prevent the ice age. Milutin Milankovitch discovered the three orbital parameters that can cause an ice age if the conditions were all to align.…

Signor Galileo, My brother in Christ, I am writing to you as Regent of the Holy mother church, but also as a flawed common man. I am in possession of a copy of the letter you wrote to Duchess Christina, and after reading it I was left confounded by your imaginative creativity, and simultaneously stupefied by not only your sheer arrogance, but your disdain and utmost disregard for the Church and its authority. Not only do your words border on heresy, but also it is apparent that your soul is in danger of damnation. It is my duty as a brother of the cloth to prevent you from moving down a path, which only ends in hell.…

Other variations like the tilt and precession of Earth also affects the natural warming and cooling process of the climate. The Earth’s angle determines the intensity of the season changes. For example, if the planet has an increasing axial tilt, the contrast increases so the summer would be warmer and winter will be colder. Precession is the wobbling of the Earth on its axis back and forth. It determines how long or short the seasons would be.…
