She Kills Monster Play Analysis

The performance that I saw for She Kills Monsters was the preview show. My expectations for this play was different from the I and You play. Since the play was about a dead sister I expected the whole thing to be sad or depressing kind of but it was the complete opposite. The play had many twist and turns surprising moments that I didn’t even expect. A live theater that I saw before this play would be I and You, these plays were similar relating that they both were about death yet, each play expressed death in two different ways, she kills monster was more of a comical play.
If I were to tell a family member what the "spine" of the play was I would tell them that it is about two sisters that were complete opposite of each other and did not

I was not very fond of the design where everything took place because it would change a different place for the scene but still be in the same spot where they left off just different characters. I know they did as much as they could since they could not just tear the set down and build a new one every time it changed to a different place. So I did start to understand when they were changing to a different place. If it started off in Agnus old house, then it would be empty because she was packing up. If they wanted the scene to be at the school they would add the desk in there or chairs to represent the school house. They would do these transitions by either dimming the lights so that it was dark when they did the change or they would have two back stage people come in dressed in all black holding the door so that the characters could walk through it representing a new room. Another way the showed transitioning from one set to another is in the castle. By them going up the step sand then coming back down that showed that they were at a new level or floor of the castle where they then though their next mission. The costumes were great as well as the fantastic make-up. The dragons and villains costumes were great and it looked like the costume designer put a lot of hard work into them because they came out very nice. The actors were very realistic. The sound was used throughout the evening when they defeated someone and also through sound effects. The sounds that they hear were great sound effects when they were fighting. They had punching sound effects and even evil villain

The two clips I chose to compare and contrast were an NYC jazz and contemporary company’s performance of “Steam Heat” choreographed by Lisa Donmall-Reeve and Lindsey’s Stirling’s performance of a Les Miserables medley. Both clips exhibited a high degree of musicality and grabbed my attention almost immediately. They incorporated lighting and costuming with an incredible mastery to enrich the performance. I highly enjoyed the music that accompanied both dances and thought that the choreography worked well with the music. While both works of art have incredibly interesting and complex choreographic elements there are important dissimilarities as well as points of comparison.…

"Monster is a relative word; to a canary, a cat is a monster. So far we humans were used to being cats." After the first three movies in the series, you might think that they would have learnt of their incapacity to contain a dinosaur – precisely the reason why Jurassic Park was shut down at the end of the third movie. Twenty-two years later, the park has been reopened, renamed and revamped. The theme park, dubbed Jurassic World, is now owned by Simon Masrani (Irrfan Khan) who has taken Hammond's dream of a dinosaur amusement park to a whole new level.…

The lighting was bright, and the music was a little wild in a sense that it was going to be full of action and party leading into the next scene. Shot angles were taken of Ben in a circular motion allowing the viewer to see his emotion of moving out to Vegas. Another scene that stood out was when Ben and Sera were falling for each other. The lighting became more dim and intimate with screen shot focusing on the emotions they share with one another, the sound is more of a light-toned sound for a slower mood of intimacy. The last and final scene that caught my eye was the part that Ben passed away.…

Different voice techniques influenced the audiences understanding of each character and the tension of the scene. The actors were very convincing in the character they played. I observed that some actors played more than one character, each with different personalities and tone of voice. As well, in unhappy scenes such as the one were Hana's brother gives a speech at the Tokyo Education Center, long pauses were used to create meaning and emotion through speech. Actors tone of voice really paints a picture to who the character is.…

“A Christmas Story”, the play directed by Susan Ferley and performed at December 2nd, 2015, was a well-performed play in my opinion. The story is about a boy named Ralphie Parker wanting a BB gun: a Red Ryder Carbine Action 200-shot Range Model air rifle with a compass in the stock and "this thing which tells time" for his Christmas present. In the story, he does all he can to receive that gun but their parents reject his wish because they thought it was too dangerous for him. The writer, Jean Shepherd, wrote about a very boring outline of the story but made the story humorous and exciting for the audience. The performances in the “A Christmas Story” was very well done by the actors.…

I would describe She Kills Monsters as hilarious with a twist in the story that also is depressing at times. I laughed until my stomach hurt at some parts and held back tears at others. The play is about Agnes and her younger sister Tilly. Agnes always would ignore Tilly because she was weird and nerdy. Agnes graduated from college just to find out the news of her family being in tragic car accident and dying.…

Play Review For my play review I chose Medea, originally written by Euripides and redone by director Robert Whitehead in 1982. The play Medea is about a wife betrayed by her unfaithful husband, Jason who marries Clauce, the King of Corinths daughter. Medea and her two sons are then exiled by Creon the King of Corinth in fear that she may cast some spell or evil doing upon his land and daughter. Medea’s heart has already turned cold by the loss of her husband to another woman and the loss of her own home.…

Monster, is His Name As many movies have done, the famous Alvin and the Chipmunks have a movie for children, including The Monster from the chiller Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus. What once was feared in the 1800’s is now used in children’s movies. Alvin’s and the Chipmunks is not a gruesome movie, but a movie that teaches children kindness and the value in friendship, nothing Mary Shelley surely intends.…

Act I shows promise for Vera and Gloria while decades later showing a sad ending in Act II as exemplified by the critics of Vera’s life. What I didn’t get from reading the book was how bad it got for Vera later in life as shown by the productions ability of using the characters/acting, overall plot, theme, spectacle, music/rhythm, and language. The characters were portrayed with great animated acting, especially Vera showing enthusiasm in both Act I and Act II but in different ways between the two acts, and just would not have gotten the overall enthusiasm/portrayal if I did not see the play live in theatre. Production did a good job of telling the story by highlighting major plot points such as, Vera’s successes and setbacks, Gloria’s dinner…

I attended the performance on April 9th, 2016 at 7:30 pm. Overall, I really enjoyed the performance. The whole plot of the story kept me very intrigued. After the play was performed for the first time in the year 2000, a year after Kane’s death, the play drew polarizing reviews. The drama critic, Michael Billington, described the play as the, “75-minute suicide note,” however, this is not the approach Troyanovsky took when it came to stage his own production of the play. When asked Troyanovsky about whether he thought the audience still enters into the theater with the exact same perception, that the play is all Kane herself, he said, “I think it actually robbed the play of its theatrical core because it you treat the play as her biographic text you are forgetting that Sarah Kane didn’t wrote plays about herself, she put herself into her plays, but that’s different… I think we open to the possibilities of the play when we stop treating it that way.” He added that the main character of the play, “is another character who may be inspired by Sarah Kane; who may be similar to Sarah Kane, but it is another…

This current semester I am enrolled in Professor Zack’s Media Production I class. Our first project of the semester was a silent film that would focus on someone or something involving a lock and a key while expressing an emotion. This project wasn’t a solo project, but instead involved working with one other person. The lock and key could be metaphoric or literal and from that concept we had to tell a story in twelve to fifteen shots. Our idea was to convey a young musician finding the right “key” on his guitar and “unlock” the excitement (which was our assigned emotion) inside of him.…
