We start out in “There Will Come Soft Rains” in a house that has no one living in it, just this living system that makes the house come alive. “Rain, rain, go away; rubbers, raincoats for today…” and the rain tapped on the empty house, echoing.” (There Will Come Soft Rains). With this information found in the story we learn no one lives there, but the robotic cleaning service, “Out of warrens in the wall, tiny robot mice darted. The rooms were acrawl with the small cleaning animals, all rubber, and metal.” (Bradbury 1) We understand that our main character is this house that stands all alone. When we began in “The Pedestrian” a scene is set in are heads of dark empty streets, as we meet are the main character, Leonard Mead. “To enter out into that silence that was the city at eight o'clock of a misty evening in November, to put your feet upon that buckling concrete wall, to step over grassy seams and make your way, hands in pocket, through the silences, that was Mr. Leonard Mead most dearly loved to do” (Pedestrian 1). The main character in this short story is Leonard Mead, and we soon learn that he also is alone in a nearly “empty” world, even though there are people.
